Movie Poster Design Instructions

Rubric

Due Date 2/21/12  20 points will be deducted for any poster turned after this date.

Learning Targets:

  • I can design a movie poster for a movie about a topic I’m learning in a core subject.

    Example:  World History is studying the Roman Empire; make a movie poster for a movie about the Roman Empire.

  • I can use typography to create mood and tone in a movie poster design.
  • I can use Design CRAP  to create an effective movie poster design.

Professional Examples - view, make a listof the items that are common on all posters

Procedure:

  1. Choose a core subject topic you are currently studying, or a topic you have studied this year.
  2. The best posters, as voted by the students, will be printed in poster size and laminated.

Example:  Nate is the title of a dramatic movie about the life of Nathaniel Hawthorne, an author studied in Mrs. Peterson’s English III class.  The movie stars Johnny Depp as Nathaniel Hawthorne and Julia Roberts as his wife Elizabeth Hawthorne.

Example:  "The Table" is a horror film based on an attack of the Periodic Table of the Elements.  The elements come to life and destroy human civilization.  The movie is based upon the study of the Periodic Table in Mr. Hoot’s Chemistry class.  Owen Wilson stars as the evil Dr. Chlorine who removes all color from the world using his bleaching properties and devises a plan to rule the world with the help of Plutonium Man, played by Ludacris.

Design a movie poster for the movie, you must include the following elements:

  • Size of the poster should be 8.5" by 11"
  • Title
  • Dominant photo
  • Sub-dominant photos
  • Tag-line (slogan)
  • Movie details at bottom (Use your list, created above)
  • Cast names
